Team Roles for Young People
Belbin's internationally renown
Team Roles are now available for
young people aged between 16 and
23 years under arrangements
known as GetSet™.
What are Belbin's Team Roles?
From research conducted over many
years Dr Meredith Belbin has
discovered that teams work most
effectively when they contain
members with a range of preferred
roles. These
have come to be
known:
-
Shaper
-
Coordinator
-
Teamworker
-
Completer Finisher
-
Implementer
-
Monitor Evaluator
-
Plant
-
Resource Investigator
-
Specialist

Team Roles explained
What do you consider to be your own
team roles?
You can compare yourself against the
Team Roles descriptions in
Team Roles explained and
consider which ones match you best
and least well. This will give
you a general idea of your Team
Roles profile - top three (most like
you), middle three (quite like you)
and last three (least like you).
But there is a better, more
accurate, way of discovering out
your Belbin profile .....
Complete a self-perception
questionnaire by downloading these
two documents:
1.
Self-perception inventory
instructions
2.
Self-perception answer sheet
Making sure you comply with the
instructions, complete the answer
sheet (this should take about 20
minutes) and send it to us by e-mail
(you will need to scan it first) or
by mail (see our address on the left
of this page) and send us payment of
£25. You can do this by cheque
or by using PayPal.
What you receive
Approximately 3 days later you will receive a GetSet™
(Team Roles) report (click
here for an
example) which
contains an analysis of your view of
yourself (self-perception). This report cannot be
good or bad, right or wrong.
It simply describes how you are and
the roles you prefer to take when
you are the member of a team.
You also receive a
certificate which
shows your top three preferred Team
Roles.
How can I use these?
You can use the GetSet™ report to understand
yourself better so that in
future you can make best use of your
strengths. You can use the
certificate when applying for jobs
or university or college places to
demonstrate the kind of person you
are. For example, if your Team
Roles report show you to be mainly a
'Co-ordinator', a 'Monitor
Evaluator' and a 'Plant' then you
are likely to be mature, confident,
good at delegation; a high level analytical thinker, a good judge
of potential solutions and an
innovative, creative person.
Why should I do it?
Knowing your Team Roles gives you an
advantage over other young people:
-
You gain a fundamental understanding of
yourself
-
You can include your preferred
team roles in your Personal
Statement when applying for
places at university
-
You gain a head start over other young
people when applying for
jobs or places in higher
or further education
